The Iowa Constitution is a guidebook for Iowa state government. Each state has its own Constitution, which embodies the powers and rights not reserved to Congress by the U.S. Constitution. State rights are protected by the 10th Amendment.
Iowa’s current constitution was adopted in 1857 and is on display in the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office at the Iowa State Capitol. The public is invited to tour the office and view the Constitution from Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
